Darveau's Castle history

In 1922 a devastating fire that occured in the Temiskaming region almost destroyed completely the town of Nedelec.
After three year, while living in his door and window workshop to help rebuilt the town, Mr. Edouard Darveau, a notable businessman, decided to reconstruct this unique house.
Although it was built with great care, this castle was created so it would have a Queen Ann style inspired from the Victorian era. It’s turret, the balcony beams covered with hand made wooden slats and the sculpted cornice testify that it’s an iconic figure in this little town.
In May 2022, the municipal council has decided that this home should be preserved; consequently, a new commity that values Nedelec and its history, was created. Thanks to a generous donnor, the municipality of Nedelec has the ownership of the house to give it a second life. So now, this place can become a place where history is put upfront. It will soon offer different services for the community and to the travelers coming in the Temiskaming region..
